Since 1852, through five generations of family members, Langdon Ingredients has traded continuously. We have grown both organically and through the acquisitions of Stewart Foods, Food Blenders, Waters Trading and the herb & spice division of Lee McKeand, to become a leading ingredient supplier to the Australian and New Zealand food industry.

1852

Henry Joseph Langdon arrives in Melbourne to service the Gold Rush with supplies of household goods including champagne, chocolate and brandy

1880's

Supplies books, boots, linen, champagne, china, crystal.

1890's

H J Langdon's son Charles Langdon begins running the business

1900's

Herbs, spices, teas, and household goods - hats, shoes, books, furniture and blankets are regular inventory items arriving from Europe. Various food products are imported, from olive oil to nuts, essences and herbs.

1910's

First connections with Australia's infant wine industry established - an agency for Cholmondoley & Bosanquet South Australian Claret.

1920's

Sole Australian agency for Rhone-Poulenc aspirin. Third generation of Langdons; brothers Clive, Phillip and Richard join the business

1930's

Richard Langdon takes over as managing director.

1940's

Fourth generation joins the business. Richard Langdon goes to London with the Langdon agent British Cellophane. Hugh Langdon and David Langdon join shortly after.

1950's

Imports the antibiotic penicillin in bulk to sell to Australian pharmaceutical companies. First to import aluminium foil from the English company Venesta.

1960's

First to introduce silicone to the Australian market as agents for Rhone-Poulenc. The silicone is used for the tiles on the Sydney Opera House. Coffee beans, herbs, chemicals, cellulose film, acetate and various oils are also imported. 1965 Office opens in Adelaide to service the wine industry

1970's

The focus on chemical business is replaced by greater emphasis on food ingredients, herbs and spices.

1980's

The business specialises in supplying food & health ingredients to food, health & industrial customers

1990's

Chris Langdon joins the company in 1992. Acquires Stewart Foods in 1993 and Food Blenders in 1994. Nick Langdon joins the company in 1995 managing business development, health and international markets. During 1998 Waters Trading is acquired from Burns Philip, adding a valuable specialisation in herbs and spices with the largest HACCP-approved processing plant in Australasia for cleaning, milling, blending and processing of herbs, spices and ingredients. Opens office in Auckland, New Zealand in 1996.

2000's

Consolidation with the purchase of the Lee McKeand herb & spice division in 2001. The management team is strengthened with the recruitment of people into management positions with food and pharmaceutical backgrounds.
Proudly celebrates 150th Anniversary on 5th November 2002.

Langdon Foods moves to new premises in Derrimut, Melbourne, Australia
 
2006
 
Langdon Foods acquires a share in Nutshack, a leading Australian retailer of nuts, confectionery, dried fruits & coffee. Also launched the Henry Langdon specialty food brand.
 
2007
 
Langdon Foods acquires Bakery Craft an ingredient supplier to the bakery, patisserie and food service industry in Victoria, Australia.
 
2008
 
Langdon Foods has expanded its business into the Asia-Pacific region with the opening of a new office in Singapore.
